Commvault uses Windows and Cisco Phone systems. Commvault uses Power BI, Microsoft Dynamics, and SQL. With this type of hardware, they can help their process faster and be more efficient when performing the service.




SOFTWARE

Commvault uses Power BI, which is an example of horizontal application. Commvault uses Red Hat Linux for open source software. Commvault recently acquired Hedvig, a software defined storage company. This allows Commvault to get into a new market for allowing customers to combine various storage types into one virtual resource. While getting into new markets can be beneficial for Commvault, they still have to be able to compete with other companies.




Data

Commvault tracks their clients and sales patterns by location or by salesperson. They use BI to track the demographic of sales based on country, gender, and statistics showing call times. The company then uses the data to see where they need to improve sales. A common programming language that Commvault uses for their databases are MySQL and Oracle Database. Commvault can use both of the MySQL and Oracle Database because they are able to handle high levels of transactions at a high rate of speed. To store their data for themselves and their clients, they use a data warehouse. Commvault also publishes all their data to other departments and other management so they can stay on the same page.


Procedure

These are best practices that guide the users and all other components on how to work efficiently. Business procedures are developed by the people that are running it. Clients call Commvault when they need their data to be recovered. Commvault has a structured procedure in which their client can call or talk to an employee in order to recover their lost data. They would have to agree on a contract so they can access the client’s data. Otherwise, they will be prohibited to recover their client’s data.


People

Customer service, marketing, sales, accounting, and software engineers are all part of Commvault’s people. These employees use the information system to record the day-to-day business transactions. While anyone can run the systems, usually professionals take care of the process to ensure that it is operating without any problems. These employees know how to fix the problems and make sure the systems are running smoothly.

 
OPERATING SYSTEM





BUSINESS PROCESS
Commvault uses Microsoft Dynamics for the use of Customer Relationship Management. Although Commvault does not use inter-enterprise information systems at their company, one example of it is a healthcare company and a hospital. While Commvault is using a lot of data for recovering the client data, there is no information silos because every department has access to all the data that is stored. While Commvault doesn’t have any inter-enterprise, an inter-enterprise supports one or more inter-enterprise processes. It also involves thousands of users and solutions to problems require cooperation among different organizations.


Microsoft Dynamics is a customer relationship management software. Commvault uses this software to track technical support tickets. Every time Commvault engages with a customer for technical help, the company records the details, the symptoms, cause, and resolution for any issue the customer is experiencing. Any employee with access to the software can see any information that is added. By keeping track of details such as symptoms and resolutions of all calls, Commvault can compare current problems to solve issues, based on the information in Dynamics. This allows Commvault to resolve issues much faster, and more efficiently. Instead of employees trying to remember how they solved a similar issue with another caller, the employee can now look through Dynamics to see how previous issues were resolved and to see what steps were taken to fix this issue.







SOCIAL MEDIA

Commvault uses multiple social media platforms to sponsor their service such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Commvault only uses social media for marketing and posting about new updates within the company software. With the use of social media, their marketing can reach many potential customers. If they like their service, customers can spread the word about Commvault’s services. Commvault does not have a specific audience; the value they provide is data protection and recovery. They post their purpose on their social media for clients to know what to expect from them.

The Cloud

Commvault uses the Wide Area Network as their Cloud Service. Commvault uses cloud based services to allow customers to download updates. The cloud is very important for everyone because it allows users to access the same files and applications from any device that they are using. Commvault uses a cloud-based service for their information systems, which is SaaS. The data first goes to on-premises and that data is then sent to the cloud. While Commvault has not had any issues with their network, there could be potential problems in the future.


Information Systems Security
Commvault had one threat to their Information systems security recently. The VPN at Commvault was down for an extended period of time because someone got through their firewall. Commvault announced that there is a lawsuit for patent infringement from two companies that Commvault competes with. They also use a two-factor authentication and have tight security on customer data. They use technical safeguard for the encryption to protect the customer data that are clients with Commvault. The security department at Commvault does a full forensic analysis to respond to incidents.

 
Managing Information Systems

Running the information systems for a company like Commvault is an essential position because all the information goes through that department, which allows the company to continue smoothly. With Reba Morakabat as Commvault’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), she is responsible for ensuring that there are minimal issues with the security of the data and other systems. While the CIO runs the information systems, Commvault has a director of Information Security and Networks. His job is to ensure that there are no data breaches similar to the Target case. The CIO of Commvault ensures that all employees are provided with their essentials in order for the business to complete daily operations efficiently without the employees’ information getting stolen or tampered with.
