PORTER’S FIVE FORCES MODEL:
Bargaining Power of Customers (High):
The bargaining power of customers is HIGH. This is because there is large competition in the open market. Customers can choose other companies to have their data protected. If customers do not like the service they get they can go to another company. Customers might also choose another competitor if the prices to recover data is cheaper and is at the customers price.
Threat of Substitutes (Low):
Product does not change, customers can pick from other companies, such as Veeam or Rubrik. The only other substitutes for data storage is a backed up external hard drive, or a Cloud-based service. Other than that, there are not many substitutes, thus, there is little to no substitutional threats.
Bargaining Power of Suppliers (Weak):
Commvault creates its own products. Commvault does not purchase software or hardware from third party vendors, saving money on licensing rights. Commvault doesn't have to worry about rising prices from suppliers because they make their own product or service.
Threat of New Entrants (Strong):
No barriers of entry, patent. Ability to start a data protection company and be a competitor in the sector. People can start their own data protection easily so there is always going to be new entrants that are trying to compete with Commvault and other data protection companies.
Rivalry (Strong):
Commvault has competition, including Veeam, Rubrik, and Cohesity. With the rivalry so strong in this industry Commvault has to stay on top of everything. With all the rivalries that Commvault has they need to be on the same page of their competitors or even have better and faster technology for clients to pick them over their rivals.
Competitive Strategy
The competitive strategy that Commvault uses is the Industry Wide Differentiation. An Industry Wide Differentiation strategy refers to a large group of customers with differentiated products or services. Commvault focuses on providing the best service or product across the whole industry. By using Commvault they can converge data management solutions that bring a simple, smart approach to hybrid IT. The industry that Commvault focuses on is to help protect data for other companies. Commvault does not only protect data for a specific industry, allowing them to be more competitive in the marketplace, and having a steady flow of revenue. Data protection companies need to be differentiated, data recovery and protection is essential to businesses, so they do not lose their information, and they must be willing to spend money to protect key data. You can not protect data for low cost because companies would be willing to pay more for a better service. In data recovery and protection, you get what you pay for.
Business Process
Microsoft BI
Structured process - formally defined, standardized processes that involve day-to-day operations:
- Helping clients recover their data
- Offer data protection services to other customers
- Gaining new clients, job offers, accounting reports, finance
Microsoft Dynamics
Dynamic process - reacting to new software Commvault needs to learn how to back up. A new type of hypervisor comes out, Commvault needs to back up the software to prevent any kind of loss. Creating new software or updating current software, resolving issues.
Value Chain
Inbound logistics for Commvault is that they do not have a physical product that they sell. They help other companies with protecting their own data that goes on throughout the company's operations.
When it comes to Operations and Manufacturing, Commvault makes software to help them protect other companies' data.
Outbound logistics would be the license file for which Commvault can access and monitor other company’s data.
Sales and marketing consist of salespeople going to sites of businesses and they also use cold call which is an unsolicited call for potential customers.
Customer service for Commvault is that when a client needs data recovery for their business, customer service will transfer the client to the necessary department.
Information Systems
Power BI is used to track a company’s sales by region or salesperson, and to analyze data such as the average time it takes to fix a client’s issue, and how long a client needs to wait for tech support. Power BI also allows businesses to bring outside softwares and programs into one, making it easier for employees to view all of the data at once. BI can be seen by other co-workers or bosses without sending the data to that person; saving time from asking the person to send you their reports. BI allows people to also select editing rights, if they want others to be able to edit the data or not. BI allows managers to make more efficient decisions for the company, see where the business is doing well, and see what needs to be improved. Information systems are essential for businesses, tracking data and seeing where improvements need to be made will either make a company increase profits, or go out of business. BI prevents companies from having silo problems, where information is not shared or accessible to other employees or other departments. Power BI allows for new data to be viewed by co-workers or management without being shared. Power BI gives people the choice whether or not they want their data to be changed by other employees or not. If multiple people are working on the same project, they can all make necessary changes, and add essential data all to the same server.
Process Implementation
By using software from other companies, Commvault can save money, and by using software all data can be stored and protected on the clouds. By using Power BI, Commvault can use this data to see where sales are doing well, and where improvement is needed. When using Power BI the improvements can help Commvault with a lot of things such as faster ordering process, more data storage and can increase the sales speed process.
Power BI creates visualizations for users, making it easier to comprehend data for the company. Viewing the data allows corporations to more easily make management decisions that will improve the business. People in sales can input their sales records, which allows the most recent transactions to be seen by anyone in the company that uses BI. In BI you can see metadata about the sales, you can track the country of the customer, how much money they spent, and how often that customer makes purchases. Power BI also can show your sales by state, showing where improvements need to be made. If Commvault sees that sales are consistently low in the state of Texas, for instance, the sales department would know that they need to visit companies in Texas, or make calls to companies in Texas to increase sales. By utilizing Microsoft Power BI, Commvault would be able to easily compare their sales by specific demographics, and make decisions on how they could increase sales in an area that Commvault is not exceeding in. if Commvault did not use Power BI, it would be harder to track sales so clearly, and BI creates visualizations of data, making it easier to analyze data, and allow management to implement changes in order to increase profits for the corporation.
